Worship & Announcements – 5/4/14

At the morning worship, Pastor Ken Kuiper will preach “Come Unto Me…” from Matthew 11: 25-30. In the evening, Pastor Ben will preach “Open Our Eyes!” from Luke 24:13-35.

BAPTISM: The sacrament will be administered this morning to Brayden James Boer, son of Mr. & Mrs. Mark Boer and Aubrey Noelle Stebnitz, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Josh Stebnitz. May the Lord bless both children and parents as these vows are made today.

ANGEL ACADEMY GRADUATION CELEBRATION will be held at church on Wednesday, May 21 at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome!

ATTENTION VBS NEWS : We will begin VBS Decoration Workshops on Tuesday night (May 6 at 7:00 p.m.) and continue to meet on Tuesdays through May or until we finish our projects. Come ready to cut, fold, assemble, and /or paint on numerous projects! We will have stations for different things to work on. Hope to see you there!

BIBLES FOR AFGHANISTAN: The New Testaments for “soldiers 1638th” are here. If you would like to mark some favorite passages and write a note in the inside cover, please pick up a few Bibles in the new entryway and return them to the box. We will send them out on May 15.

BUS TRIP: Join us on Wednesday, July 16 for “Cirque Shanghai”. (Please note the change of date, the first trip has filled up already). Chicago’s favorite summer circus returns with an all new show! We will also spend some time in China Town and have lunch at “House of Fortune” The cost of the trip is $60. To make a reservation, please call Sandy Hamer.

CPR TRAINING: This Monday, May 5th there will be an opportunity to become certified in CPR, AED and choking training. Cindy Spender will be teaching a class here at church from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. The cost is $30.00 and the certification card you will receive is valid for 2 years. PLEASE NOTE: If you participated in the training two years ago, your card is now expired, so please join us! If you would like to sign up, please inform Tricia Boss or Mark Emanuelson. FINGER FOOD: The Fellowship Task Force is again asking for finger food for May 18 following the Heaven Night service. Thank you for always doing a variety of things for everyone to enjoy!

FIRST FOCUS ARTICLE: The May issue of the First Focus is in your mailboxes today. Please take time to read Pastor Ken’s article, “A Time of Transition”, for an update on the transfer process from the RCA to the PCA.

FRC GARAGE SALE: Our 3rd annual Garage Sale will be held on June 19, 20 & 21. Save your donations as you are spring cleaning! We will have a drop-off date in the near future. We are also in need of many volunteers to help make this event a success. Please contact Sandy Hamer if you are interested in helping for the sale days and also for June 18 set-up day. We will again have a Bake Sale and are in need of volunteers to bake, please sign-up on the sheet on the North bulletin board. Questions, please call Sandy Hamer or the church office at 474-9610.

FIRST REFORMED CHURCH – MEDI-MEX MISSION TRIP: There will be an outreach trip to Baja California from August 16-23. If you would like to experience mission work first hand, please join us. A medical team will be working with Dr. Herrera going from village to village doing wellness check-ups. A construction team will be building a house or other structure. See John Van Drunen, Ken Vanderhye or Jerry Cassity for more information. The deadline for signing up is TODAY.

HEAVEN NIGHT! Our evening service on Sunday, May 18 will be a special celebration of the wonderful promise of HEAVEN. There will be lots of music and a meditation from Pastor Ben followed by a time of fellowship in the lower level. Music rehearsal dates are as follows: Wednesdays, May 7 and 14: Men’s Chorus at 7:00 p.m., Choir at 7:45 p.m. Praise Team: Thursdays, May 8 & 15 at 7:30 p.m.

HOUSEHOLD ITEMS NEEDED: Mike and Pretty Van Prooyen and their two children will be staying in the parsonage from the end of June through Christmas. We still need a Queen size bed, one or two dressers and a nightstand. Please call Mark Emanuelson or the church office if you are able to help with these needs.

LANSING COMMUNITY CLEAN UP DAY is Saturday, May 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. If you, your family and friends or an organization would like to volunteer, please pick up a registration form at the information centers.

LAST CALL: There is still room to join us at a table for an evening of thanks to God for His work through Chicagoland Prison Outreach the past 20 years. It will be an evening of delicious food, uplifting music, testimonies of lives God has changed, and great fellowship. MENTORS/MENTEES: The date for the Celebration Potluck Dinner is Tuesday evening, May 13. Please let either Deb, Donna, or Karen know if this date does NOT work for you.

SPRING WORK DAY: On Saturday, May 17 we have planned a work day inside the parsonage to prepare the house for Mike and Pretty Van Prooyen to stay in while here. There is a flyer in your mailbox with more details and a sign-up sheet in the entryway.

WORSHIP KIDSTYLE! Kids age 3 through first grade, will be dismissed during the singing of “Only Trust Him”.

CROWN POINT CHRISTIAN SCHOOL will hold its 16th annual golf outing at Briar Ridge Country Club on Tuesday, June 10 at 7:00 a.m. This is a great outing for anyone enthusiastic about Christian education and the warm camaraderie can’t be beat! HORIZON HOSPICE AND PALLIATIVE CARE in Olympia Fields is looking for compassionate, caring volunteers. They will be holding Volunteer Training beginning May 8th. Please see the flyer on the bulletin boards for more information.

LANSING CHRISTIAN SCHOOL will once again be holding the much anticipated BBQ fundraiser! Order LCS famous BBQ (sloppy joes) today! Order forms can be found in the office or at www.lansingchristian.org/families/parent-club.cfm and are due by May 8. The price is $6.00 per pound. Pick up time is Tuesday, May 13 from 1:00 to 5:30 p.m. Please call Trisha Boss with any questions.

LANSING MEALS ON WHEELS ADDING CLIENTS: Tuesdays and Thursdays between 11:00 a.m. and noon, volunteers from Lansing Meals on Wheels will deliver a hot, nutritional meal to Lansing residents who are unable to prepare meals for themselves because of age, illness or physical disability. The cost is $4.00 for each meal, payable weekly or monthly. The program is housed in the Lansing First United Methodist Church but is staffed by volunteers from many churches and organizations in the village.
